We are at the beginning of another year, and you may be looking ahead at your intentions, plans, and thinking about where you are in your inner development. Maybe there are things you want to accomplish that you haven’t yet. Or maybe, part of you is hesitant to even make any plans
because of an all too common phenomenon: fear of failure.
Hermetic Philosophy uses the phrase “All is Mind”, and focusing your mind on the right ideas could be rocket fuel for your plans this year. We want to help by sending you a series of messages to inspire you, to remind you of your potential, and of the universal principles that can bring harmony, health, and prosperity. These are phrases from philosopher and author Dario Salas Sommer to meditate on, carefully consider, and consciously absorb.
Enjoy…
“There are light years between wishing and wanting. Wishing alone has never been enough to accomplish goals.”
– Dario Salas Sommer
So what’s the difference between wishing and wanting?
These two words are used in the context of Hermetic Philosophy.
Wishing is passively focusing on processes happening outside you, things that you can’t control or influence.
It is like saying “I hope the weather is great for my party tomorrow.” Well, the weather is not something you can change, and you’re
Putting yourself in a weak position by hoping it will happen to be a great day.
Wanting is active, and based on what you can do – your will, your perceptions, your attitude. These are things you can influence. Although in some cases it may take a little practice and training, the ball is in your court. It is like saying “I am going to share good feelings with the people I love, no matter what the weather is like tomorrow.” This is attitude puts you into a creative mode of dynamically figuring out what you can do to accomplish your goals. It is now up to you. Do you send out backup plans? Think of alternate activities? Or just say “come what may, we will have a great time.” – however you manage the details, you have adopted a position of power, and can let go of what happens outside of that.
Living life in this way is more challenging, yet it develops your willpower, creativity, and inner strength. Most importantly,
It puts you in the right position to get real results, and not waste your time just “wishing on a star”.
We’ll leave you with a useful question for reflection:
In what area in your life are you currently wishing, and it is not working out for you?
